  • His Watchful Care

When our youngest was born we were so happy she was here.  She had her days and nights inverted, and we were so tired that we missed the deadline to get her on our insurance.  Needless to say we have tried hard to avoid any medical situations.  Well, this week several of our kids had the croupe except our baby.  Croupe is highly contagious and very dangerous for infants and elderly.  We were told that if our baby gets the croupe to take her straight to the ER where she would immediately receive a shot of epinephrine.  I did not want to even think about how much that would cost.  We prayed for our little girl and decided to just leave her health in God's hands.  I must say, God knows our needs and He is Merciful.  Our baby has been 100% healthy even with everyone around her coughing in her face (which we have tried to prevent).  God answers prayer.  It is only by Him that she has remained healthy.

  • The Humble Shall Be Exalted

A few days ago we ate at a local taco establishment for lunch.  One of our boys, upon leaving the restroom ran directly toward the table where we were waiting for our food order.  He almost plowed into an elderly gentleman and his wife.  Wanting him to learn to be attentive and polite we directed him to humble himself and apologize to them.  Daddy took him over and he tearily apologized and asked for forgiveness, which he received.  He sat back down at our table to eat.  Fifteen to twenty minutes later the older couple was ready to leave and they stopped at our table.  The man came over to our son and asked him his name and gave his name.  He asked him if he had pockets.  Our son answered "yes".  The man asked him to stand up.  When he was standing the man put all his coin change into our son's pocket.  Then he left.

At this point we asked our son, "If you did not humble yourself would you have received that pocket full of money?"  We also reminded him of the verse we memorized from 1 Peter 5:6  "Humble yourself therefore under the mighty hand of God, that He may exalt you in due time."

He was given about $2 in change.  "I'm rich!" he exclaimed.  Proverbs 22:4 says "By humility and the fear of the Lord are riches and honor and life."

I pray he will not forget that life lesson.  God is Faithful!

  • My Heart Greatly Rejoiceth

The Lord is my refuge and my strength.  A very present help in trouble.  He is the lifter of my head.  He is faithful to provide for our every need.  Although, I am not a widow, I am without my husband for 9 days.  This week, Tom is in Belize.  He is on a missions trip with the youth of our church and will be gone until the 4th of August.  This is the longest we have ever been apart since before we were married.  Tom is my best friend.  There will be very little if any communication directly from Tom or from anyone else for that matter.  So, there is no consulting about discipline or training of the children.  There is no visiting with him to see how his day went or sharing about my day.  God is my husband and He is the Father to our children.  The kids and I sang a few songs yesterday while we did the dishes.  One of yesterday's verses was "This is the day which the Lord hath made; we will rejoice and be glad in it." (Psalm 118:24)  Another verse, "The Lord is my strength and my shield; my heart trusted in Him and I am helped; therefore my heart greatly rejoiceth; and with my song will I praise Him." (Psalm 28:7)  God is faithful and full of grace and mercy.  Thank you, Lord, for your unfailing love and kindness and grace.

  • Our Trip

We had a great trip.  There were many firsts for us.  Our first year with a girl in COMMIT and choir and student sessions.  Our first year with a son in ALERT Cadet program.  Both of those were highlights for us.  I would say this was the first year we really enjoyed Family Viewing.  It was also our first year not to come straight home afterward.  We took our time getting home and it was wonderful.

After we had brunch at a friend's house (til 3:00 pm) we drove to Hebron, Kentucky to the Creation Museum.  WOW!  We would recommend spending at least two days there.  Everything they did is first class.  There is a mixture of multi-media exhibits and diagrams, diaramas and a cross-section of what Noah's Ark may have looked like.  Some explanation of how they would have built it (tools and techniques).  While we were there we discussed a few things with the kids about the exhibits.  For instance, how coal beds were formed.

We decided we needed to talk to our church staff and plan a church trip to the Museum for Biblical Creation education of our congregation.  So many of the teens are so indoctrinated by evolution.  The Museum provides such great visuals and the truth from God's Word.

They have seven different points of progression...

    1. Creation
    2. Corruption
    3. Catastrophe
    4. Confusion
    5. Christ
    6. Cross
    7. Consumation

It was one of the highlights of our trip and we would definitely recommend it.  For large families the Yearly Family membership is a good idea.  You can go two days now.  Then go another two days before it expires.  Or as often as you can.  We plan on going again before our trip to Nashville next year.
